Appeal for witnesses of attack in Middleton

Date published: 01 April 2014

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward, after a man was attacked in Middleton.

At around 5pm on Monday 24 February a man was driving on Hollin Lane in Middleton and had an argument with the driver and passenger of a VW Caddy Van.

As they got to the junction with Rochdale Road, the van driver got out and approached the victim’s car. The victim got out of his car and the driver punched him in the face. The man then fell to the ground, but the van driver carried on punching him.

The van driver has been described as white, 30-35-years old, slim build and had teeth missing. He was wearing an orange hi-vis jacket.

The passenger in the van has been described as around 27-30-years old, with black hair and a black beard.

Detective Constable Michael Berger of Middleton Integrated Neighbourhood Team, said: “This was a violent attack and we want to find the van driver as soon as possible.

“There are likely to have been quite a few people around at this time in the evening, maybe returning from work that may have seen the two men in the VW van or seen the attack.

“We are urging anybody who may have any information or recognises the description of the offender to contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 8701 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
