A man had his skull fractured and lost several teeth during a vicious assault outside the Tesco Express on York Street in Heywood.
As he walked to the side of the garage on Adelaide Street, an argument started between a group of men before the 25-year-old man was assaulted. The group then walked off.
It is believed there were four men described as being white and in their late 20s or 30s.
A woman in the group is described as being white, in her 20s or 30s, of medium build and had shoulder length blonde hair.
The incident occured around 5.20am on Sunday 16 March 2014.
Detective Constable Nick Price from Middleton Police Station said: “This was a vicious assault on a man that left him seriously ill in hospital. He sustained a fractured skull and lost several teeth and is still receiving treatment now.
“I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the assault or saw a group of men and a woman near to the garage at the time of the attack, to contact police.”
