Students raise £550 for Sport Relief

Date published: 30 March 2014

Students have raised over £550 for Sport Relief with a series of fundraising activities including a flash mob, a bake off and a sponsored exercise bike ride.

Skills for life students and staff kick started the fundraising with a fun flash mob on campus. The group donned masks and did their ‘Gangnam style’ flash mob in the Henry West building, collecting money as they went.

Students studying early years, social care and hair and beauty were also quick off the mark with their fundraising. To raise money, as well as organising a cake sale, they headed to the gym to ‘row the channel’ on rowing machines and ‘cycle from Rochdale to London’ on exercise bikes!

Progression students this week staged the first ever Great Hopwood Bake Off as part of their employability skills qualification. Over 40 students took part and the judges, who included Deputy Principal John Spindler and Faculty Head Greg Scully, were "lucky" enough to get to sample all treats like Rocky Road and Lemon Drizzle cake.

Mr Spindler said: “Everything was really delicious. My compliments to the students on all the hard work they’ve put in to this and well done to everyone involved in raising so much money for Sport Relief.”
