Sparth Community Fun Day

Date published: 27 March 2014

Sparth Youth Group held a family fun day at Sparth Community Centre on Sunday 23 March for the local community to experience their first Health and Wellbeing event, as well as raising money for Sports Relief.

Young people from the youth group organised the activities at the event, which included face painting, bouncy castle, t-shirt printing, raffles, henna painting, and health information stalls were also available.

Local residents took the opportunity to get their blood pressure checked, get advice on dental health and take part in fitness sessions.

The event was attended by MP Simon Danczuk and Councillor Amina Mir who praised the young people for planning and delivering the event as well as for their decision to donate proceedings to charitable causes.

Rochdale Youth Worker Jasmin Akhtar said: “It was a fantastic event which the community participated in, the young people worked extremely well together and have developed new skills in team working and event management whilst raising £100 for sports relief.

Junaid Imtiaz, who helped organised the event, said “It was a really good day. I was happy to see our community come together and have fun. I am also excited to plan another event very soon”.

The youth group is currently working on a creative arts project in partnership with Rochdale Pioneers Museum. The artwork is  from old bike parts and recycled materials and will express the themes taken from the ethos of the modern cooperative movement as well as providing and eye catching and exciting feature for the Museum.
