Girls from 26th Rochdale Brownies in Milnrow have raised £120 for the British Heart Foundation by completing a sponsored skipping event.

This term, the girls chose to work on their agility badge and have had to complete a series of activities including zumba and dancing to earn the badge and after hearing about Jump Rope for Heart, the Brownies decided it would a good idea to raise money for charity whilst completing their agility badge.

During one of their weekly meeting, the Brownies took part in a variety of skipping rope activities including team relays, skipping obstacle courses, skipping challenge and long rope skipping.

Blossom, 7, who took part in the event said: “It was great fun. My favourite bit was the obstacle course. It is great that we have raised lots of money for charity too.”

Jump Rope for Heart is the British Heart Foundation’s sponsored skipping challenge which encourages children and young people under 18 to take part in a physical activity that is fun, rewarding and heart healthy. The event also raises money for both the heart charity and the participating youth groups, who are able to keep 20% of the money raised.

Leader, Fiona Wilson, said: “The Brownies have worked really hard, and we would like to thank their families and friends for supporting this great event.

"The funds raised for the unit will help us to continue to provide a fun and varied programme for the girls.”

The girls were presented with their agility badge by their leader at the sponsored skip event.
