Ring and Ride changes from 1 April

Date published: 25 March 2014

Changes will be made to Greater Manchester’s Ring and Ride accessible transport service from Tuesday 1 April.

The service, which provides door-to-door accessible transport for people of all ages who find it difficult to use ordinary public transport, will continue to run 8am to 10.45pm, seven days a week.

The following changes will come into effect from 1 April:

  • The dedicated cross boundary service will be withdrawn and become part of the main Ring and Ride service, providing the opportunity to book trips in Greater Manchester including travel into neighbouring districts of up to six miles.
  • Trips over six miles to the nearest local hospital, town centre or accessible public transport facility will be considered.
  • All trips can be booked through one call centre phone number between 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
  • Trips can still be booked from up to seven days in advance of travel to one hour before.
  • There will be a new fare structure with adult and concessionary single fares.

Bernard Rowen, Managing Director of Greater Manchester Accessible Transport Limited, which operates Ring and Ride, said: “We are committed to continuing to improve and the Ring and Ride service.

“Now that we’ve upgraded our booking systems we have been able to merge our cross boundary service with the main service, which means passengers will be able to travel for up to six miles into neighbouring districts during much longer operating hours.

“I’d encourage anyone who wants to find out more about the changes to contact us on 0845 688 4933.”
