Money stolen during bank robbery
Date published: 24 March 2014
A large amount of money was stolen during a robbery at a bank in Middleton.
Just after midnight on Saturday 22 March 2014, security guards were filling up cash machines at Santander on Middleton Gardens when a man threatened them with a machete, demanding they handed over the money.
They were given two cash boxes before the man got into a silver Mercedes and drove off.
The car was later found abandoned nearby.
The man is described as being white, 5ft 11in tall, of medium build, wore a black boiler suit, balaclava, black gloves and black footwear. He spoke with a local accent.
Detective Constable Charles Stewart said: “We do not know how many people were in the car but believe it had false number plates. The Mercedes was later found abandoned a short distance away.
“I am appealing to anyone who may have seen the car drive off at high speed or see who abandoned the car to call us. I am also keen to hear from those who may have further descriptions of the offenders to get in touch.”
Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 8701 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
