A coffee morning and book sale was held this morning (Saturday 22 March) to raise money for the Rochdale branch of The Samaritans.
The event, at St George's Church on Bury Road, was the first held by the church and included selling books and cakes as well as serving refreshments of tea, coffee and bacon sandwiches to those in attendance.
Director of Rochdale Samaritans, Ian Hartley said: "Not only is this about raising money but it is also about raising awareness of The Samaratans as well."
The church has been working with The Samaritans since the start of the year after they were chosen as the church's charity.
Reverend Karen Smeetan said: "Every year we ask the congregation to nominate charities and then we decide on who we can support and this year the Samaritans were part of that choice."
As well as the sale of goods, a tombola and raffle were on going at the event.
Ian added: "We have had a steady stream of people through the door all morning so it has gone very well indeed."
The next event planned for the Samaritans is on Saturday 26 April at St George's Church Hall.
