Mark Wickham to drive a pink tractor to raise money for breast cancer

Date published: 21 March 2014

Mark Wickham, owner of The Rake Tapas Bar in Littleborough, will be driving a pink tractor from Littleborough to Whitby on Sunday (23 March) while dressed as Superman in aid of breast cancer charities.

Mark has painted his grey 1952 Massey Ferguson tractor and trailer pink, the colour associated with Breast Cancer for the journey.

Mark said: “I just wanted to do something to raise awareness of cancer and wanted to do something that everyone could get involved with. The superman thing is just the fun side of the plan really.”

The journey to Whitby will begin early on Sunday morning and will see Mark travel over 100 miles before he reaches his final destination.

“I have had a few friends diagnosed with breast cancer so wanted to do it for them as well. But it is about spreading the message and telling people to check, check, check themselves and be aware of the disease,” said Mark.

The idea for the fund-raising event only started last week so Mark hasn’t set a fund-raising total. He added: “I haven’t really set an amount as the idea only came to me last week but as long as it makes people more aware then that is what counts.”

Mark won’t be completing the journey alone as he will be followed by three friends and engineers. He said: “I have had some great support from people leading up to Sunday and will have some great people supporting me on the day.”

Despite the long journey in front of him, Mark is looking forward to the journey. He added: “I am looking forward to it. As long as is it fun and positive then I think it will be ok."
