Views on Kirkholt regeneration plans sought

Date published: 21 March 2014

The views of Kirkholt residents about regeneration and improvement plans for the area are being invited at a special event on Tuesday 25 March at the Kirkholt Community Church between 3pm and 7pm.

Residents can drop-in at any time to find out about and comment on Rochdale Boroughwide Housing’s plans to redevelop and improve the neighbourhood.

Information will be available on the redevelopment of The Strand, homes that are being considered for demolition, environmental improvements at Kirkway, the Kirkholt Big Lottery £1 million, and homes eligible for improvement work under the Neighbourhood Investment Programme.

Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) tenants will also have the opportunity to speak to their neighbourhood housing officer, and can find out how to save themselves money by making their homes more energy efficient.

Clare Tostevin, RBH Head of Strategy and Regeneration, said: “It is really exciting to see plans starting to firm up for new shops, homes and community facilities in the heart of Kirkholt. RBH and the council have been working together to develop a joint action plan for The Strand – jointly supported by both RBH and council resources. As part of this we have started to develop bold plans for shops, homes and a community hub. Our next step is to talk together with the local community to shape these proposals – we look forward to speaking to residents at the consultation event”

Anybody who would like to know more, but cannot attend the event should contact the Kirkholt Drop-In Centre either in person at 10 The Strand, or by phone on 01706 273977.
