Springhill Hospice Midnight Walk 2008

Date published: 08 May 2008

Springhill Hospice night time sponsored walk will take place on Saturday 19 July 2008. This years Midnight Walk, sponsored by Jonathan Swire Estate Agents will be a 13.1 mile, fully marshalled walk, commencing from the Middleton Leisure Centre on the stroke of midnight. The Route takes walkers through Middleton, Rhodes, Bowlee, Hopwood, Heywood, (with a halfway point at Springfield Park), Sudden, Castleton, Slattocks returning via Middleton Town Centre to the Leisure Centre.

The Midnight Walk once again ties in with Middleton Round Table MiddFest and is supported by Rochdale MBC and UK Fitness Academy.

Last year the 193 walkers raised a massive £23,000, which proved to be Springhill Hospice’s biggest ever singular fundraising event in their 25 years of fundraising. Ian Jenkins Fundraising Manager at Springhill Hospice said, “The feedback received from participants at the end of the walk last year was very positive and at no time did they feel at risk despite being out in the middle of the night. This aspect of feeling secure sustained the party atmosphere all the way round and by the time the last walkers returned at just before 5:00am one or two had enjoyed it so much that they were ready to go out and do it all again!”

To assist with the operation of this event, Springhill Hospice is also looking for people to get involved as stewards and volunteers – so if you would like to help out, the organisers would be delighted to hear from you.

Organisers are hoping that this event could raise enough money to at least cover one week’s costs of around £46,000, and are asking the ladies of the Borough to help Springhill Hospice achieve this target.
