Saint Patrick’s Day celebrated with raising of Irish flag

Date published: 17 March 2014

The Mayor of Rochdale was joined by councillors and members of the Irish community to raise the flag of Ireland on Saint Patrick’s Day.

A group of over 30 people gathered outside Rochdale Town Hall to hear how Irish ancestors headed to the town and how the council is supporting their heritage.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Colin Lambert said: “For the first time in the history of this council, we are introducing an official flag-raising policy.

"Days such as these are now an annual event and will mark the diverse Rochdale community of which we are so proud.”
