The Cemetery Hotel raises money for Springhill Hospice

Date published: 15 March 2014

Staff from the Cemetery Hotel have spent the day (Saturday 15 March) raising money for Springhill Hospice.

To raise money, the hotel incorporated their fund-raising with today's Rochdale football game and served three special beers for patrons, Hip Hill Hooray, Dunphy's Delight and Beech's  Best Bitter.

As well as the specially selected beers, staff were running a raffle for prizes including Football Association badges and season tickets for Rochdale Football Club.

The fund-raising is part of the Springhill Hospice Go Green day, which is set for Friday 16 May. Landlady Amanda Chay said: “We have always supported the Hospice and wanted to kick start the Go Green plans early.”

As well as today's fund-raising, the pub will be selling green cocktails on Friday 16 May and have plans to hold a pet walk and come in green evening.

Last year the pub raised £4,000 for the Hospice and would love to replicate that again this year. “Last year we said we would like to raise £1,000 but we managed almost £4,000 so I think we want to say £1,000 again but if we can give them more than that would be brilliant,” said Amanda.

Those who regularly drink in The Cemetery support the hotel's fund-raising efforts. Amanda added: “Everyone is really supportive. A lot of people that come in here have links to the hospice as well so everyone comes together to do the fund-raising.”

Springhill Hospice costs £3million to run a year so money raised for the different fund-raising events go towards that.

“£3million is a lot of money so anything we can give them will be a help,” said Amanda.
