Rochdale firefighters raise money for charity

Date published: 15 March 2014

Firefighters at Rochdale Fire Station have spent today (Saturday 15 March) raising money for the Fire Service National Benevolent Fund.

Firefighters from the station held a charity car wash to raise the money with 13 fire fighters taking part.

Eight of the firefighters involved were from the on duty watch team and five firefighters were volunteers.

Watchman Hague, who was helping with the car wash, said: “It has been absolutely mad today. We have had a lot of interest.”

The Fire Service National Benevolent Fund helps families who have lost loved ones who were a member or in some circumstances a retired member of the fire service. The fund also helps widows/widowers of people who were in the fire service.

The team of firefighters didn’t set a fund-raising goal. Mr Hague added: “We just want to raise as much as possible. Anything will help.”

The car wash will also be held tomorrow (Sunday 16 March) at Rochdale Community Fire Station from 10:00am.
