National SEN Conference at Redwood
This week saw a number of our students assisting in the organization of the conference at Redwood. A special ` thanks ` to the 6th form catering students who provided the lunch refreshments, Ben from the Bridging Year Programme for his power point and presentation to delegates, Garry for his contribution as a Student Leader and for members of the Student Council who welcomed the visitors to school. All really good school ambassadors on the day!

School support for 'Marathon Man': Sports Relief Day
A series of events are being planned by the Sports Team to coincide with the Sports Relief Day next Friday with the intention of supporting the marathon run by Damian McNulty. Some students have asked if they could row the 26 miles during lunchtime sessions in the build up to the marathon in April. We will also be asking pupils to come in sports wear on Friday 21 March and give a donation to the marathon fundraising ! More details will come out next week

Internship Programme
The feedback from employers who support our 6th form internees is continuing to be extremely positive and the production of a DVD explaining the programme and the student`s achievements is outstanding! Well done to everybody concerned with the programme.

Student Council Meeting
The council meeting took place this week and some of the issues discussed included plans for Sports Relief Day on 21 March, discussions with Amanda the school cook on the new menus and the plans for World Cup meals in the summer term and ideas to support Damian in the London Marathon in April. As ever the entire council was a credit to themselves.

KS4

Students from Redwood attended the Skills North West conference at Event City in Manchester. This event is the biggest skills and careers event happening in the region. Aimed at 15-24 year olds this free event intends to inspire and motivate students to make more informed career choice options. There was plenty of hands on interactive features giving students a real taste of different future career options whatever their dreams or ambitions. Students handled snakes, used mixing desks, looked at theatrical make-up presentations and consumed ‘healthy cocktails’. Mr Alcock also handled a snake and went on and on about how brave he was...I mean seriously...have you seen the size of it.

Here are the KS4 students that took part in the CP games. These games are specially designed for students with cerebral palsy and are inclusive.
SEB have also been taking part in relay races, here's Jason having great time!

SEB celebrated Maslenitsa in MFL. It’s a Russian festival to celebrate the end of winter and the beginning of spring. We had Russian food, drink and music. Everyone had a good time especially Alex!!

KS5

As part of life skills Matthew’s group prepared a meal of vegetable chilli con carne. Sandra, Ismah, Tanzila and Kerys worked really hard and put in to use safety skills they have been practising over the last few weeks, preparing and using a sharp knife to cut the vegetables. Matthew said “the girls are really hard working and fast learners. The meal they prepared was delicious.”

The looking good group looked like they had “just stepped out of the salon” after enjoying a pampering session. Sofia enjoyed a foot massage whilst Billie, Polly and Alex enjoyed a hand massage and selected some nail varnish to apply to their nails. All the girls thoroughly enjoyed the session and the relaxing atmosphere.

Students visited the Employers Skills Event held in Heywood as part of their Vocational Education. Jodie and a group of students enjoyed the morning out and had the opportunity to meet and chat to local employers and participated in some activities.

In English, students have been reading and following written instructions to put together boxes from Ikea. The challenge was undertaken with lots of enthusiasm and some students worked independently whist others worked in pairs to complete the task.

The Student of the week this week is Dayle, he always has a smile to offer. He has been interacting and cooperating well in all lessons. In tutor times he is helpful and very positive.

Most Improved Student of the week is Tom who has done really well adjusting to his new accommodation. He has been displaying a more mature attitude in general, especially in difficult situations with his peers.

Well done to you both, Keep up the good work.
