Arts Council England has renewed The Rochdale Pioneers Museum Accreditation
The Rochdale Pioneers Museum is celebrating after the announcement that Arts Council England has renewed their museum accreditation.
The Museum Registration Scheme was established in 1988 and later became known as Accreditation. Since then it has supported museums across the UK to focus on standards and identify areas for development. The scheme is regarded as one of the most innovative and effective developments in the museum sector. It has led the way in raising museum standards in the UK, and has been used as a model and source of inspiration for similar schemes overseas.
Accreditation demonstrates that the Museum has met a national standard. It enables museums and governing bodies to assess their current performance, and it supports them in planning and developing their services. It also strengthens applications for public and private funding and gives investors confidence in the organisation.
Museum Manager Jenny Mabbott says: “It is great news that the Rochdale Pioneers Museum’s accreditation has been renewed. The Museum has changed significantly since our last submission to the accreditation panel as we have undergone a major redevelopment project. This culminated in our reopening in October 2012. We are happy that the Arts Council has taken the decision to renew our accreditation and we look forward to using the Accreditation scheme as a tool for developing the Museum further in the future.”
