Ged Heatherington receives award for outstanding service

Date published: 13 March 2014

Rotarian Ged Heatherington has been honoured with a Paul Harris Fellowship for outstanding service. The award was presented at The Rotary Club of Middleton's 81st Charter Night gala dinner.

Ged was recognised for his continued contribution to Rotary over many years. The “Ruby” level award was in recognition of his outstanding service to Rotary and his work beyond club level as a District Governor.

Stuart Sawle, President of the Rotary Club of Middleton, said: “A committed team-player, Ged has always been a ‘hands-on’ Rotarian – keen to ‘get stuck in’ to support service projects for his club and other clubs within the district.

“The Paul Harris Fellowship comprising Ruby Lapel Pin, Certificate and Medallion is awarded in recognition of his service and his commitment to the aims and ideals of Rotary.”

Ged Heatherington, Rotary Club of Middleton & District Governor, said: “I feel extremely honoured that the club has recognised my efforts within Rotary with such a prestigious award.

“I look forward to continuing my work with the club after my year as District 1280 Governor, and return to the fold as Club Treasurer and as a member of The Rotary Foundation committee - which is Rotary's own charity.

“As District Governor, I have had the privilege of seeing the service being undertaken by the 49 Rotary clubs in the North West and how their work impacts on peoples lives.

"Also even further into the future, I am looking forward to becoming the Club President on 1 July 2016, where the club membership and myself will be looking to engage Rotary service in both the local and internal community and looking to change lives.”

Since 2002, Ged has given significant service to the Rotary Clubs of Heywood and Middleton and to District 1280. He served as President of the Heywood Club in 2007 and joined the District Team serving as Assistant Treasurer and, in 2008, as Community & Vocational Services Chairman.

In 2008 he transferred to the Middleton Club and took on significant District responsibility as Assistant Governor in 2009 and subsequently District Governor Nominee, District Governor Elect and in 2013 District Governor. His service to his Club will continue in 2014 when he will take up the office of Club Treasurer.
