On Monday 17 March ceramicist Adrian Holt is working with a group of Year 11 Oulder Hill students. The workshop will support the students GCSE exam work and will result in a series of Abstract and Figurative works in Clay. Adrian has worked with Oulder Hill students in the past and his workshops are always very inspiring for our students.

The Year 7 Rugby team made it successfully through to the North West finals by default as no other teams entered the competition! In the coming weeks, they will be representing Rochdale in the RFU’s “all schools” programme. The Year 8 Rugby team are also through to the North West finals as they took part in the emerging schools competition. All of the boys enjoyed the experience and they grew game on game as they became more familiar with the game. The students who took part were: Jordan Parkhill, Luke Bennett, Emerson Bradshaw, Jack Turner, Eddie Riley, Marcus Welsby and Connor Marland-Lord. The Year 9 team are also participating in the Rugby emerging schools competition, and we will let you know how they get on.

The Year 8 Football team played a cup match against St Cuthbert’s. The game finished 7-2, which in reflection was very harsh on the boys. The star performers were Daniel Madeley and Matthew Greenwood. They then played St Cuthbert’s in a league game. Having led 2-0 in the first half, the wind was against Oulder Hill in the second half and they went 4-2 down. The boys played very well. Bailey Turner, Dayne Stewart and Matthew Greenwood showed excellent character and determination. The students involved in the matches were: Daniel Madeley, Danny Devine, Matthew Greenwood, Dayne Stewart, Jack Turner, Marcus Welsby, Hakeem Milla, Jordan Parkhill, Tom Booth, Bailey Turner, Callum Ruffell, Tom Tobias, Marcus Welsby, Abdul Akram, Roan Cardona and Emerson Bradshaw.

Last week, the Year 11 Boys Football team played the best match of their season so far, beating St Cuthbert’s, the best team at this age group, by 5 goals to 3. The team have moved up a division this year, and have been involved in some tough matches, unfortunately being on the wrong end of some very close results. Josh Nothard scored a hat-trick and Jamie Williams got the other two goals. It was impossible to pick a man of the match, as there were great performances from so many players. Well done to the squad: Haider Rashid, Travis Roberts, Oliver Greenwood, Tom Smeeton, Danny Rea, Brad Oldham, Dennon Ashcroft, Trent Simm, Jamie Williams, Callum Lynch, Josh Nothard, Raees Tariq, Ryan Whiteside, Shahek Ali and Sam Lomax.
