Mutual benefits in the frame

Date published: 11 March 2014

A special film is being made to showcase the ways in which Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) are building stronger communities across the area.

The documentary will focus on how RBH’s new mutual status is enabling it to bring residents, employees and partners together to create better neighbourhoods.

A range of topics is being covered by the film including the work of RBH’s repairs teams, the support offered to sheltered housing residents and the way that the organisation helps tenants to lay on community events and activities.

Employees from across RBH also came together with residents at a recording session at the Pioneers Museum in Rochdale where they discussed how working together can transform lives across the borough.

The fascinating day included a potted history of co-operatives and highlighted how the seven principles laid down by the Rochdale Pioneers in 1844 are just as relevant to the mutual housing society RBH today.

One of those who took part in the film was Community Action Worker, Khalida Crossley who helps tenants to deliver a range of community projects including cultural activities for youngsters and a support group for Asian women.

Khalida said: “Becoming a mutual organisation has given us all the chance to look at how we can achieve much more by working together and the film is a great way of spreading that message.

“Our aim is to make a real difference in our neighbourhoods by improving people’s homes, environment and quality of life and our mutual principles give us a great chance of achieving that.”

When completed the film will be shown to new RBH tenants and employees and will also be available to view the film on the RBH website.
