News from KS1 and Foundation Stage

Reception had a great time visiting a local building site (at Aphrodite). Now we will build a wall ourselves! We are now looking for Shoe boxes to turn into ‘bricks’ so we can continue our building projects on a bigger scale! If you have any please send them into school. Thank you.

Year 2 – This terms projects are “Countries from around the world” and “Living things”. Please can all children have a full, labelled P.E. Kit in school. As the weather is improving children also need a labelled water bottle.

Nursery - On Monday 10 March Mrs Cockcroft will be returning to Nursery. She would like to thank all the children and staff for making her time in Year 4 a very enjoyable experience. “I wish you all continued success and hope you keep up the hard work. I will miss you lots”. She is now looking forward to a fun-filled term with the Nursery children.

Important office notices

Once again we are nearing the end of the financial year. Please help us to clear our arrears by 31 March. Thank you to those who pay all monies promptly, we are very grateful as it makes it easier for us. By paying regularly you secure your child’s place for care clubs, music lessons etc. We will be introducing payments online soon and you will be fully informed how to do this. Office hours are currently 8.30am -4.30pm. Please put loose change for dinner money with your child’s name and class in an envelope.

Congratulations to all the TA’s who recently passed their First Aid courses.

Pupil Progress

The half termly pupil progress tracking has shown that since Christmas, the vast majority of pupils have made one or two sublevels progress in 8 weeks. Our Guided Reading strategy is particularly working well.

Parents Forum

We know that there are areas of school life in which parents are very interested and want to be more involved. They would welcome the chance for an informal chat and a coffee.
So we are setting up a Parents' Forum so that we can work in partnership on issues like homework, communication, progress and safety. The first date we propose is Monday 19th May 5pm – 6pm. A letter will be sent out after Easter with a return slip to show interest.

Enrichment Programme 2014

Netball teams have now been selected, details of matches will be sent out in the near future. We thank parents for their continued support, and the girls for their continued enthusiasm and commitment. The Football team has won yet another tournament.

Music: Congratulations are extended to Adam Warburton and Paul Jackson who both gained medals and to Joe Smith, Matthew Williamson and Stanley Clough for their musical solos at the weekend and received certificates.

Judo Breakfast club continues to be very popular and a 2nd round of Judo has started. Letters have gone out to those on the waiting list and other children that have shown interest in the sport have been invited to join us .

This half term we have organized archery club (Y5/6). Cookery club for Year 2 upwards. Sign language club as well as pottery club are due to start soon.

Rugby continues as a great success. Swimming in Year 3 is due to start in April and more details will follow.

Safety - Parents who attended said the E-Safety Awareness evening on Tuesday 25th Feb. really helped them to understand how to keep their child safe on the internet.
Please ensure the side gate is shut when parents come into or leave Nursery to ensure safety of children at lunchtime. Nursery doors opens 11.40am and at 3.10pm and so we ask parents to collect their children promptly.

Profile of the month

Our school crossing patrol lady, Bernadette Bennett, has worked here for 16 years on 3rd March. She has 3 gold lapel pins for 5 years service each! This year was the diamond anniversary of the school crossing patrol.

Bernadette likes her job even in winter, if it is a nice frosty morning. She says it’s important to wear the right clothes when it’s hailing and windy. She is provided with a balaclava, a snood in winter, a summer baseball hat and a summer coat. In winter the hat and winter coat is fleece lined. Her hobbies are walking and cycling and she loves the outdoors.

Bernadette loves the hills and goes to the lakes for her family holidays twice a year, where she reads six books on her Kindle. She loves to read! Her favourite author is Philippa Gregory. Her youngest of three daughters is training to be a teacher at Liverpool Hope. Her two other daughters studied animal husbandry and employment consultancy.

Thank you for your long and loyal service and for keeping us all safe, Mrs Bennett!
