Hedge laying at Hollingworth Lake

Date published: 08 March 2014

Rangers from Hollingworth Lake, along with Nature Ed, held a hedge laying course today (Saturday 8 March for people aged 16 plus.

Hedge laying is the traditional way of managing hedges and is a country skill which is usually found in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Jude Murray, from Nature Ed, said: "We have had seven people on today's course and they all had different reasons for coming along. For example, one gentleman wants to do a hedge in his front garden."

Those taking part tackled an area of land behind the pond at Hollingworth Lake Visitors Centre.

Jude added: "It is a good piece of land for the wildlife but it just needs some upkeep because otherwise it will turn into a mass of trees and that isn't particularly good."
