Siddal Moor students compete in their first Vex Robotics event

Date published: 05 March 2014

On Friday 28 February our Robotics team entered their first regional Vex Robotics competition at the Manchester Communications Academy.

They were up against 16 other teams from as far away as London and they were some of the youngest students at the event.

After 8 qualification matches they ranked 9th out of 16 winning just 3 of their matches, but they had scored more points than any other team because the matches they played were so closely fought.

They then joined up with a team from London to compete in the knockout tournament.
Ethan Leyden (Y9) drove them to victory through the 2 quarter finals matches, much of it by himself because the London robot kept breaking down.

They progressed to the semi-finals, but came up against a very experienced team from Nottingham.

Ethan did all he could but they were just outmatched and again there was little support from their London team mates, as their robot had broken down again.

They lost the semi-final matches and the Nottingham team went on to win the tournament.

They received very positive comments from the judges for a fantastic first attempt.

Well done to Ethan Leyden (Y9), Jack Hooton-Flett (Y9), George Ryan (Y9), Samuel Manton (Y9) and Katie-Alice Smith (Y8).
