Grace’s Place children's hospice seeking support

Date published: 05 March 2014

Volunteers from Grace’s Place, a children’s hospice which will be built to provide support and end of life care to children from Rochdale, Middleton, Heywood, Bury and Oldham, were at Number One Riverside on Tuesday to deliver information about the hospice.

The hospice is named after two-year-old Grace Tinarwo. Grace, from Rochdale, suffers from the chromosomal abnormality Patau Syndrome which means she and her family will benefit enormously from the specialist care the new children’s hospice will provide.

Fundraiser Jules Garner said: “It has been identified that there are around 250 children who would benefit from this hospice but there could be a lot more out there that need the help and support as well.”

The fundraisers were at Number One Riverside to inform residents about Grace’s Place and to gain as much support as possible for the hospice.

Jules added: “We just want to let people know about Grace’s Place because there isn’t anywhere in North Manchester for children to go to so it is about informing people and getting support for the hospice.”

Currently fundraisers need to raise £1m to make the hospice a reality.

Grace’s Place is a partnership between Bury Hospice and Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust. £500,000 has already been granted towards the cost of creating the facility but fundraisers still need to raise £1m to make the project happen.

“We are looking for help in the local area from people who either want to fundraiser or who want to create a group of fundraisers to help raise money for the cause,” said Jules.

The fundraisers at Number One Riverside received a positive reaction to their display and have received offers from help from members of the public.

Jules added: “We have had a few ladies say that they want to do something to help and want to do some fundraising which is great.”

The hospice will be built on Dumers Lane in Radcliffe and will include four dedicated inpatient and family rooms, an emergency inpatient room, two family bedrooms, complementary therapy rooms, a family bedrooms, complementary therapy rooms, a dedicated 24 hour advice line, a hydrotherapy room and a sensory room.

It will become the 50th children’s hospice in the country.
