Five members of Heywood Pensioners’ Association’s management committee have been honoured for the work they do in helping and supporting the area’s older people.
The committee members were presented gifts and certificates at a meeting of Heywood Township on Monday 3 March.
The 20th anniversary of the formation of Heywood Pensioners’ Association was in February.
Doris Dixon, vice-chair and social secretary of the group was very grateful and thanked Heywood Township for its support over the years, in particular Councillor Linda Robinson who has been attending for the past 15 years.
Councillor Ray Dutton added: “Heywood Pensioners Association celebrated their 20th Anniversary in February and the group is still going strong. It is a lifeline to pensioners in the town and, as well as offering support to each other, the group enjoy a full range of social activities - from bingo to dining out.”
Councillor Linda Robinson, Heywood’s Older Person’s Champion, said: “I would like to thank the Township Chair, Councillor Raymond Dutton, and the Heywood Councillors for giving their support.
“The community in Heywood is really second to none and the Heywood Pensioners’ Association is a great example of this. Twenty years is a fantastic achievement”.
