Heywood Township Meeting as it happened

The agenda includes the council asset strategy, the highways investment programme and the township plan.

They Heywood Pensioners Association is presented with certificates to commemorate their 20 year anniversary.

Chairman of the committee, Councillor Ray Dutton states that the decision regarding waiting at any time restrictions has been deferred to the next full township meeting.

The open forum starts the meeting.

Avril Yarwood, who lives on Middleton Road, brings up the issue of the play area built at Heywood Rec. She states it is a “monstrosity” and was not done in line with proposed plans.

Council officer Gordon Beverley gives an official written response and states he will look into other issues raised.

The issue of fly tipping throughout Heywood is raised.

Councillor Lambert states that there have been four incidents of fly tipping in the last month and that the council will do whatever possible to prosecute those responsible.

The Council Asset strategy is the first item addressed by committee members.

The strategy has been approved by the Cabinet and is now seeking approval by the Township.

Councillors move the report.

The Highways Investment programme is up next with new plans being put forward for April 2014-March 2015.

75% of the programme has been completed.

Councillor Dutton praises the work of the Highways Department and thanks them for money being spent across the whole of the borough.

Councillor O’Rourke also praises the work of the Highways team.

The Township plan is presented next.

The report provides details set out by the township for 2014-2015 and is a twelve-month plan.

Committee members move the report.

School governing vacancies are next.

Councillor Colin Lambert puts himself forward for a school governing vacancy at Harwood School.

He gets full support from committee members.
