Redwood School receive visit from John Willis

Date published: 04 March 2014

Redwood School received a visit from John Willis who is currently attempting to swim 1,000 metres at 50 pools in 100 days.

John, who is completing the challenge to raise money for his charity Power2Inspire, was born without properly formed arms and legs.

John paid a visit to the school on Friday 14 February as part of the school's Winter Olympics Day. John addressed staff and students before swimming 50 lengths in 38 minutes.

He said: “The driving thought throughout my life has been ‘Don’t be a victim, just get on with it’. Our ambitions are only limited by our own thought processes, really.”

Redwood School is one of 50 schools to have witnessed John swim 50 lengths as part of his challenge.

During the Winter Olympics Day, some pupils were lucky enough to get into the pool with John whilst other cheered them along from the
sidelines.

So far the school has raised nearly £100 for the Power2Inspire charity.

Power2Inspire aims to raise funds to establish networks of motivated people in sport, business and society. These networks will then be involved with inspirational activities bringing together people of different abilities.

As well as his charity fundraising efforts, John is a father of two who has studied at Cambridge University. He has also travelled the world, had a successful legal career, launched his own charity and has completed a triathlon and currently runs his own business consultancy.
