Writing workshop encourages budding writers

Date published: 01 March 2014

A writing workshop was held at Heywood Library this afternoon (Saturday 1 March) to encourage budding writers to put pen to paper.

Budding writers from across the borough attended the workshop, which was led by creative writing expert and author Robert Graham.

During the workshop, Robert said: “Most writers will study the craft of writing and will often get stuck. It is often just about sitting and writing.”

The rest of the 90-minute workshop was then spent discussing and looking at specific elements of writing and included a number of writing activities.

Robert added: “Everything is a story, you are always telling a story.”

The workshop was arranged by Rochdale Borough Libraries and was open to 15 writers.

This event ties in with the launch of a new novella writing competition, The MMU Novella Award, with a prize of £1,000, plus publication by Sandstone Press.

The competition is aimed at e-reader users in search of good short story reads with the requirement for entries being between 20,000 and 40,00 words long.

The closing date for entries is 23 May.
