Man knifed in his own home

Date published: 28 February 2014

Mark Cuff was knifed in his own home by a man who burst in demanding the keys to his Land Rover, which was parked outside.

Mark and his 17-year-old son were threatened with the knife by the man in the early hours of this morning (Friday 28 February) at their home on Bertha Road, Rochdale.

Mark’s son was downstairs when he heard a number of knocks to the front door. He opened the door and a man burst in holding a knife.

Once inside, the man then began shouting for the keys to the car outside, a Land Rover Discovery, whilst waving around the 10 inch steak knife.

Mark, who was in bed at the time, made his way downstairs to see what was going on. He then told the man that he would be turning on the light so he could see properly. As Mark pointed to the light, the man hit him with the knife causing injuries to his hand and wrist.

The man then left the scene. Mark said: “I think he got scared that he was going to get overpowered and just decided to leave.”

The police were contacted at around 12:15am and enquiries into the incident are currently ongoing. Mark added: “The police were really good and came out and have said they will come out again later on today.”

No one was seriously injured during the incident and in the end, nothing was taken. “I have a cut to my hand and my wrist but that is about it. Nothing too serious and he didn’t get away with anything in the end,” said Mark.

The man involved in the incident is described as a white man with a thick Irish accent. He is described as being 5’10" of stocky build. He was wearing a black beanie hat and neckerchief covering his face and dark clothing.

A spokesperson for the police said: “Anyone with information should contact the police on 101.”
