Rochdale Sixth Form College Students inspired by dance performance at Lowry Theatre
A Level dance students from Rochdale Sixth Form College have visited the Lowry Theatre to watch a performance of ‘Broken’ by the Motionhouse Dance Company.
The trip was part of the students’ A Level course ahead of their practical moderations next month. Motionhouse’s latest theatre production, Broken, has been touring widely across the UK to widespread acclaim since autumn 2013. The performance probes human relationships with earth in a world of shifting perspectives.
Students were able to appreciate the creative and innovative choreography based on a stimulus, which is a skill they must use in their exams. They were also able to develop their knowledge and understanding of the necessary performance and physical skills required for an effective performance.
Gabriella Hill, Teacher of Dance, said: “The students were inspired and excited by the athletic and physical performance of the company. When leaving the theatre students commented about how much they enjoyed the performance and how motivated they were to continue and refine their own choreographies for their moderation.”
