Pat Flynn made an Honorary Alderman

Date published: 27 February 2014

Former Rochdale Councillor Pat Flynn has been made an Honorary Alderman.

Pat, who was a councillor for almost 30 years, received the honour at an extraordinary council meeting this evening (Thursday 27 February).

An Alderman is often seen as a high ranking member of a borough or county council and is chosen by the councillors themselves.

Pat said: “I am absolutely surprised to have been made an Honorary Alderman. It came completely out of the blue but it is certainly an honour. I had many surprises when I was a councillor – some not as pleasant as this but this is certainly a pleasant surprise.”

Pat’s husband, former councillor Ted Flynn, also described this as an honour and said: “It is certainly an honour for her to receive this.”

Councillor Ashley Dearnley moved the motion with councillors Colin Lambert and Andy Kelly agreeing.

Pat received the honour in recognition of her having rendered eminent services to the Borough as a past Member of Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council.
