Call for help to identify fly-tippers

Date published: 27 February 2014

After a spate of fly-tipping near Queen’s Park this week, Rochdale Borough Council is calling for residents to come forward with any information they may have about the culprit.

Cabinet Member, Councillor Jacqui Beswick, said “We will not tolerate this. We will do everything in our power to prosecute whoever is responsible for destroying the lovely environment around our award-winning Queen’s Park.”

The most recent truck-load was dumped overnight on Monday (24 February). Mixed in the rubble were several corrugated asbestos panels, which can damage the environment and are expensive to remove. Specialist contractors were brought in to remove the panels, at a cost of around £1,000 to the council.

Councillor Beswick continued “Unfortunately, the culprits have left little behind to identify themselves so we are appealing to the public to help us catch them. If you might recognise any of the material dumped, we urge you to let us know.”
