Jack Atkinson selected to compete in the Northern regional heat of the Wella Professional student competition

Date published: 26 February 2014

Hairdressing student Jack Atkinson has been selected to compete in the Northern regional heat of the Wella Professional student competition – Wella Xposure.

For the first round entrants had to create a commercial cut and colour and submit a photograph of their finished look.

18-year-old Jack, from Rochdale, created his winning look on fellow hairdressing student Danielle Stephens, 17, from Heywood, and will need to recreate it live, within an hour, at the Northern regional heats in April.

Jack, who is currently in his final year at college, was thrilled when he found out he got through to the next round of the competition and hopes he’ll do well there in order to be able to compete in the national final at the Wella World Studio in London in June. He commented: “This is the first competiton I’ve entered and I didn’t think I’d got through as I couldn’t find my name on the list. But it was there in black and white! I have to thank my tutor Anna Lockwood for encouraging me to enter and I’m really looking forward to the challenge of recreating the look even though it’s going to be in such a pressurised setting.”

The overall winner will walk away with a great prize including a day shadowing a hairdressing icon, £1000 worth of Wella training vouchers, a tool kit to the value of £500 and a trophy.
