Space expert visits Harwood Park
Date published: 26 February 2014
Pupils at Harwood Park spent a day ‘in space’ on Monday, with Jerry Stone of Spaceflight UK.
Years 5 and 6 have been exploring the solar system and finding out how many planets we really have.
They have also made and launched rockets, and built and tested Mars landers. At the end of the day they launched their rockets!
Miss Fitzpatrick, the teacher who arranged the visit said: “It was a wonderful hands-on day which was very exciting for all the children and gave them a greater understanding of space and the solar system.”
Mr Stone travels to schools all across the UK with a set of inflatable planets, a rocket launcher and all kinds of other items. Jerry Stone is a space presenter and author. He is President of The Mars Society UK and is often on radio and TV.
He also has a Blue Peter badge for showing Zoe Salmon and the Blue Peter team how rockets work.
