Beech House School

Date published: 25 February 2014

Beech House hosted the ISA North Regional Junior Cross Country Championships.

Twenty four schools and over 500 children descended on the school in atrocious weather conditions to take part in the event.

Despite a re-design of the course, it still proved a real challenge for all the competitors.

Many congratulations to all the winners and a big thank you to all the staff and pupils for a well organised event.

The under 12 and under 13 Beech House athletic teams competed in the Indoor Athletic Competition which was held at Kingsway Park School. They took part in a range of events including standing long and triple jump, speed bounce, javelin throw and various relays. The team finished 9th and 8th respectively.

The under 16 rugby team played a friendly against Wright Robinson. For many this was their first experience of contact rugby and it showed as the visitors dominated from the first whistle. Beech House were much better in the second half and managed to put a few sets of six together. However their opponents proved much too strong for them and they ran out comfortable winners. Players of the day were Conor Leyland, Kingsley Benson and Rohan Young.

The under 11 netball team finally managed to play their first league match of the season against Healey.

Healey began the match well and raced into an early lead by half time. Beech House had a little more possession in the second half but were restricted to long range attempts from the edge of the circle. Healey extended their lead and were deserved winners. Players of the day were Elana El Hage and Hira Iqbal.

The under 16 girls football team qualified for the finals of the Super Sixes Tournament at Matthew Moss. They suffered a heavy opening defeat to the eventual winners Hollingworth but played really well thereafter to record a win, a draw and two defeats to finish in 4th place. Player of the day was Amy Platt, who scored all the goals.

Rohan Young (yr 8) and Daniel Rigg (yr 5) travelled down to Coventry to represent The North of England in the ISA National Swimming Finals. Rohan finished 3rd in the under 14’s Medley Relay and 6th in the under 14’s Individual Freestyle. Daniel finished 4th in the under 11’s Freestyle Relay. Congratulations to both swimmers on your performances.
