All aboard the Standard 4 at Heywood Station

Date published: 22 February 2014

Steam engine, the Standard 4 80080 departed from Heywood train station this morning (Saturday 22 February) as part of a steam gala event.

The Standard 4 is a steam locomotive that was built during the 1950s. During that time the trains were primarily used for commuter and suburban services.

The first train departed from Heywood at 10am. Peter Norris from Heywood Station said: “These events often prove popular. There was quite a queue this morning for the first train.”

For the steam gala, passengers had the option of a number of tickets giving them varied travel options.

Peter added: “There are a number of tickets on offer, including the rover ticker, so people can go back and forth and do a number of journeys if they want to.”

Passengers arrived at Bury to a fair being held at Bury Transport Museum, which included stalls of collector’s items and memorabilia.

The event continues tomorrow (Sunday 23 February) with the first train departing from Heywood at 10am.
