Energy Smart clubs for Kirkholt tenants

Date published: 21 February 2014

Kirkholt tenants are being given the opportunity to learn more about energy efficiency and to learn more about cutting the cost of their energy bills.

The monthly sessions, dubbed Energy Smart Clubs, are being organised by Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) to ensure that their Kirkholt tenants learn more about how they can save energy and ease the resulting financial burden.

The sessions will take place at Kirkholt Drop-in Centre on the Strand, and while there will be focus on specific topics, tenants are encouraged to attend and ask any energy related questions that they might have.

These sessions were kicked off by a free energy efficiency day on Thursday 20 February, where tenants were able to come by and receive some information. This information included details on the different technologies and subsidies that are available to ease the financial burden of heating their homes, and help free people from fuel debt.

Part of the day involved encouraging tenants to sign up for a switching scheme, an auction organised by ten Greater Manchester councils that will encourage energy companies to offer lower prices in an effort to pick up new business. It is estimated that those signed up to the scheme will be able to save £250 a year.

Stephen Snape, a Kirkholt resident who attended the efficiency day, said: “It’s really helping people who can’t afford their bills. People are getting into debt and this is great way to offer help to people who need it.”
