Rochdale Borough Design Awards

Date published: 20 February 2014

Winners of the Rochdale Borough Design Awards are Brownhill Learning Community, Rochdale Pioneers Museum and Asda Distribution Centre, Kingsway.

Brownhill Learning Community won the Borough Design Award, the Pioneers Museum won the People’s Design Award and Asda Distribution Centre won the Sustainable Development Award.

The awards, which are in their fifth year, are awarded to recognise good design across the borough of Rochdale.

Katie Connolly, from Brownhill Learning Community, said: “We are delighted with the win. We didn’t expect it because we have an identical building in Heywood but it is nice to have new buildings and it nice to get this award.”

Neil Allen, from Loop Systems Architects, who worked on the Rochdale Pioneers Museum, was “delighted” with their win. He said: “This has been a tricky project so it is nice to see that the people of Rochdale have come on board with it and like what has been done.”

Katie McGuire, from Tate Consulting, who picked up the award on behalf of the Asda Distribution Centre on Kingsway, said: “It is great to win. We have worked with Asda for a number of years and it is nice to see our sustainability rewarded.”

Council Leader, Councillor Colin Lambert said: “Tonight we are awarding some of the finest examples of design across the borough.

"Well done to those who have won and well done to those who have been nominated.

"These awards will hopefully encourage design across the borough and show that it is rewarded.”

Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Peter Rush who presented the awards this evening, added: “It is a pleasure to see these businesses being rewarded for their design. It is nice to see businesses being recognised across the borough.”

Mayor Rush and Steve McIntyre, partner at Faulker Browns - who helped to design Number One Riverside, presented the awards.

The awards were sponsored by Countryside Properties.
