Mecca Rochdale bangs the gong for local carers
Date published: 19 February 2014
Mecca Rochdale employees struck a huge heart-shaped piñata to mark the launch of their charity partnership with Carers Trust.
All 97 Mecca clubs, part of the Rank Group Plc, participated in the Valentine’s Day launch by hosting a wide range of fundraising activities ranging from raffles, lucky dips and karaoke, to a variety of competitions and other interactive events.
“It’s very important to us to be at the very heart of our local community. Working with Carers Trust will offer us the chance to help the many people who dedicate their lives to caring for family or friends,” said Mecca Rochdale general manager Helena Taylor.
Not only will Mecca Rochdale be raising much needed funds for the charity but employees will also go the extra mile by offering their time as volunteers to local carers’ centres and schemes.
Their support will help to tackle the isolation often felt by carers and provide them with desperately needed breaks, information, advice and support. Carers Trust is the UK’s largest charity for carers and Chief Executive Thea Stein is excited about the prospect of the newly formed partnership.
“There are around seven million unpaid carers in the UK who could easily go unnoticed and unsupported. But the time and effort that employees at Mecca have pledged to give will make a huge difference to carers’ lives and the people they care for,” said Thea.
Anyone who cares, unpaid, for a friend or family member who could not cope without their support, is a carer.
Three out of five people will be carers at some stage in their lives, underpinning the importance of helping those who dedicate their lives to caring for another.
