Work will start on Rochdale Road this month as part of a major bus priority package aimed at improving bus journey times and service reliability on key routes into Manchester city centre.
New bus and cycle lanes, bus stops, pedestrian crossings, parking bays and improved traffic signals are intended improve the flow of traffic along the route for all road users.
Transport for Greater Manchester and Manchester City Council consulted on the proposals to improve the A664 Rochdale Road in late 2012.
The improvements will be completed by autumn this year.
Work on Manchester New Road, which forms part of the wider route through to Middleton bus station, is scheduled to start in spring.
The proposals should improve bus travel between Middleton and Parrs Wood and across Manchester city centre.
