Matthew Moss School Coffee Shop - coming soon

Date published: 15 February 2014

Learners in 7.1 have completed Project Expert, learning about the importance of effort in order to become an expert. They have now been introduced to their next project, the ‘Coffee Shop Project’. This involves them working on the requirements needed to run a mini enterprise.

Initially they have had to draft a letter applying for a ‘job’ within the class ‘Coffee Shop’. This has been a very worthwhile experience for the learners, many of whom were inexperienced at writing letters for an audience using formal language and good literacy.

Learners transferred the knowledge and understanding they have been learning through their ‘Breakthrough to Learning’ language course in English lessons, to their My World project.

When writing their first draft application letters for our Coffee Shop jobs, it was also clear that learners struggled to identify the skills associated with jobs. They are now carrying out research on different jobs related to running a coffee shop, such as head chef, accounts manager, interior designer.

This week the group went out into the local area around Castleton to look at the various businesses that exist. They collected and recorded primary research about different jobs and businesses. The class really enjoyed the experience and now feel more confident to undertake the ‘Coffee Shop’ task.

Watch out for the future Matthew Moss School Coffee Shop, coming soon!
