Missing Dog: Anica – White Siberian Husky

Date published: 12 February 2014

The owner of a missing white Siberian husky dog is asking for the help of the general public in sighting her so she can be returned home safely.

Anica, who went missing from her home in Denshaw on Thursday 7 February, has been sighted on the moors in Littleborough a number of times since her disappearance.

Owner of Anica, Karen Barber said: “She is a very timid dog who isn’t very good with people. It has taken me and my daughter a long time for her to build up her trust with us so if someone new approaches her, it is likely she will run off.”

Anica, who is a rescue dog, first went missing with her sister but her sister was recently found. Karen now believes that Anica is walking around that specific area in an attempt to find her sister again.

“We have pinpointed an area that she seems to be spending most of her time in so I think she is walking around looking for her sister because that is where she last saw her” said Karen.

It is understood that Anica is spending her time between areas of the White House Pub on Rochdale Road going into Littleborough from Halifax. Sightings have also been made near Junction 22 of the M62 motorway.

This is the first time that the two dogs have been separated so it is likely that Anica is more afraid and timid than usual. “They have never been apart and have never been away from each other until now so it is understandable that she is going to be scared” said Karen.

Karen has had a good response from members of the public in the search for Anica. She said: “It is down to the help of the good hearted people and animal lovers who have helped us try and get her home. If it wasn’t for those people and the help of Facebook we wouldn’t have been close to finding her.”

Karen also wants to thank the work of Rochdale RSPCA in their efforts. She said: “I have been told that there have been some complaints made to the RSPCA but I would rather them spend their time and effort helping 100 dogs rather than helping me find one dog. This is my dog to find. David Canavan and his family have been amazing in helping me and I would like those people who have complained to retract their complaints.”

Currently, Karen is spending as much time as she can at the moors in hopes of catching Anica. When your reporter spoke to Karen, she was at the location walking around the area looking for her dog. She said: “I am absolutely worn out. I have been camping on the moors with her sister and just trying to spread the scent around so she comes back. I just want to get her home.”

If anyone does see Anica, Karen is asking that they get in touch with her immediately and that they do not try and catch her. “We have had people trying to catch her in the past few days and because she is so timid and scared so just bolts. We saw her the other day and a lady tried to catch her but she just bolted. It broke my daughter’s heart to see her run away again” added Karen.
