Well done to Katie Hancock in P8, Abdul Wajid in P1 and Ali Hussain Shah in G6 for being the winners of the Music Key Words Competition. Each of the three students won a certificate and a gift bag of stationery and items for the Arts. Congratulations to all the students who entered the competition as we were impressed by the volume of entries that we received.
Students are able to enter the ‘Bigger Challenge’ CEPA Faculty competition this week and the closing date is Friday 28 February. Learners are asked to match thirty eight terms with their meanings and it is quite difficult. Entry forms have been issued to tutor groups and are available to download on our school website if your child is at a loose end over the holidays.
We will be issuing letters to invite learners to attend a visit to Liverpool for the day after the half term holidays. The visit is open to all Year 7 learners and will involve attendance at the Walker Gallery, The Liverpool World Museum, The Museum of Liverpool and the Liverpool Tate. The visits will take place in mid-May. For further details, please contact Mr De Courcey.
Year 11 Arts Award Silver and Gold learners will be showcasing their work at the Arts Award Expo on Wednesday 26 February from 2.45pm until 4.45pm in the Heartspace. The afternoon showcase will feature a range of visual and performing arts and the event is open to friends, families and our primary partner schools. For more details, please see Mr De Courcey, Ms Williams, Ms Wystawnoha and Mr Mvula.
Songwriting Club takes place every Monday after school in the Music Ensemble Room and is led by Mr Dalby. The club explores music composition and songwriting and is open to all years.
This week sees us celebrate Internet Safety Day and we have hosted a range of learning activities and visits from outside organisations. Learners in Year 7 CALL lessons have begun a special E-Safety course which will lead to recognised accreditation. For more details, see Ms Smith or Mr De Courcey.
Art ‘Catch-Up’ sessions take place every lunchtime and after school for learners who wish to spend more time on their visual art work. The sessions are run by our Art Team and learners should speak to their Art teacher in the first instance to let them know if they intend on coming along. For more details, please speak to Mr Walker.
Arts Award Silver Gifted and Talented sessions take place every Tuesday after school and this week learners have been exploring the structure of a variety of arts organisations. This will build their learner portfolios for completion later in the year.
