Rochdale Lions celebrate 24th anniversary

Rochdale Lions celebrated their 24th anniversary with a special meal and celebration.

The group, which is part of the Lions Club International, is a community service organisation.

Eileen Taylor, Vice President of the Lions said: “We have a nice night planned with a few special guests in attendance.”

The celebration included a meal for guests, tombola and speeches from some of those in attendance.

Special guests for the evening included Mayor Peter Rush and Mayoress Monica Rush and the North West District Governor for the Lions
International Liz Axten and her husband Ray Axten.

Mayor Rush said: “It is always a pleasure to come to a Lions event and to celebrate the hard work that they do for a variety of causes throughout the borough and around the world.”

The Rochdale Lions have had a successful twenty-four years and have held a number of events and fund raising efforts. Eileen said: “We have done a lot over our twenty four years. We have done things like glasses collections, charity events, helped with the Cumbria floods and presented awards to a number of people.”

Jean Royle, Secretary of the Lions, added: “We have worked with a lot of people over the years as well. We have presented some of them with certificates as a way of thanking them for all of the hard work they have done.”

Rochdale Lions is dedicated to the idea that men and women who live in a community are in the best position to know who needs help and why.

Rochdale Lions is part of an international organisation, which currently has over 14 million members worldwide.

Eileen, who will be president of the Lions from July, added: “We are certainly looking forward to the next year ahead and the next big anniversary.”
