Rochdale Council Cabinet meeting as it happened

The finance reports are presented to the Cabinet first.

The report states that there is an overall saving of £3.1m.

Two services reported overspending and they are Children’s Services and Economy and Environment.

The Capital Finance update is next.

The report states that some services are reporting an underspend of £2.1m.

The report asks the Cabinet to approve the rephrasing of £29.9m.

The Collection Fund for 2013-2014 is next.

The council is estimating an impact of £200,000.

The Savings Proposal update shows savings of £297,000.

Discussions about the wind turbine scheme are discussed next.

Cabinet members agree to re-name the scheme to the renewable energy scheme.

The Rochdale Borough Transport Strategy is next.

Mark Widdup states that the refresh of the strategy is important to bring in further funds to the borough.

The Local Flood Risk Management Strategy is next.

The strategy discusses how the council is dealing with flooding and discusses how they are communicating those strategies.

The re-modelling of the Stair Lift Maintenance Provision is next.

Councillor Donna Martin states that approving these plans is common sense with the ageing population.

The Winder Wind Energy Programme – The Business Case is next.

The report gives proposals for the renewable energy scheme and asks the Cabinet to approve the work for planning to go ahead.

Councillor Colin Lambert states that money from this project will go into the pockets of local residents.

Discussions regarding the change in age range and enlargement of St Andrew's CE Primary School are next.

The headteacher and a representative for the school of governors give full support for the plans.

Speaking on behalf of Councillor Ashley Dearnley, ward councillor for the area, Councillor Ian Duckworth states that Councillor Dearnley fully supports the plans.

The Cabinet agrees with the plans.

The River Roch funding application is discussed next.

Mark Widdup states that the application for the next stage of the funding is key to re-opening the river.

Councillor Lambert adds that this plan has received attention from as far as the USA and Australia as well as support locally. He adds that he hopes local people get involved to deliver the next part of the project.

The Social Care report is the final item on the agenda.

It is stated that the report brought to the Cabinet shows a journey of improvement.

Councillor Lambert praises the work of Councillor Donna Martin and the team at Children’s Services.
