Oulder Hill Community School

Date published: 03 February 2014

Well done to the Under 14 Oulder Hill basketball team who represented Rochdale at the Greater Manchester Finals. Unfortunately, they did not manage to qualify for the latter stages of the competition but all the pupils involved valued the experience of playing in the tournament and represented the school with distinction. They got off to a good start in the competition beating the Albion school from Salford 8-6 but were beaten in the next three games by very strong opponents from Reddish Vale, Philips and Urmston Grammar School. The tournament was a great success for two of our pupils, Owain Harrison and Kyle Dixon, who have been invited for trials at Manchester Magic.

Well done to the pupils involved, who were: Jack Turner, Hayden Lewis, Will Moore, Owain Harrison, Kyle Dixon, Jonni Allen, Bailey Turner, Dayne Stewart, Mohammed Ahmed and Steven Nairn.

Year 8 Options Evening takes place on Monday 10 February from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. The evening will provide Year 8 students with the opportunity to discuss their GCSE option choices with subject teachers to enable them to choose the best subjects for them to study for their GCSEs. We look forward to welcoming parents/carers to the event to help the students make the best choices for their futures. In order to ease congestion on what will undoubtedly be a very busy evening, we invite you to arrive at different times depending on what form your child is in. Could we therefore please ask that forms 8A, 8B, 8C, 8D and 8E arrive in the theatre for a 6.00pm start, and forms 8F, 8G, 8H, 8J and 8K arrive in the theatre for a 6.45pm start? Thank you in advance for your co-operation with this.

At Oulder Hill we collect unwanted clothes and materials to raise funds through the Bag2School scheme. Our current running total is £1500.00! A big thank you to all who have brought in donations so far. The blue bin has now been emptied, and is ready to be filled again! If a student brings in a bag of unwanted clothes or materials, shoes, bedding etc. they will receive Vivo points. The bin is located in the Street near the ramp towards Redwood’s building. More information on the Bag2School scheme is available on their website: www.bag2school.com/u/k/home/.

A reminder that there is a Parents’ Meeting for the students going on the Battlefields trip to Ypres, Belgium on Thursday 13 February. The meeting starts at 6:00pm and will be taking place in the LRC. Please bring the consent forms and behaviour contract with you if they have not been handed in yet.

School closes for half term at 2:50pm on Friday 14 February. School reopens at 8:30am on Tuesday 25 February due to an INSET Day on Monday 24. We hope you have a nice, relaxing break, and look forward to welcoming all students back rested and ready to learn on Tuesday 25.
