Sissy and the Struts

Date published: 03 February 2014

Sissy and the Struts is a new six piece funk, soul and disco band coming out of Rochdale.

The band, which specialises in covers, have been together for just over a year and played a packed out gig in the Horse and Farrier in Norden on Saturday 25 January.

Lead singer Rachel Ward said: “It was absolutely packed. The place was rammed.”

Saturday's gig was the first for the band in the Horse and Farrier. “We could hardly get in because it was that busy. We would definitely go back there after the reception we got,” said Rachel.

Members of the band all come from Norden and Bamford and started the band for a wedding last year.

Sissy and the Struts play a variety of funk, soul and disco music and chose this style as they wanted to try something different to what is currently on offer in Rochdale.

“We noticed that there are a lot of rock bands playing in the pubs at the minute so we wanted to try something a little different and it seems to be working,” said Rachel.

The band hopes to move on from Rochdale and play more gigs in Manchester. In the future, I think we want to try and get out of Rochdale and go on to Manchester and try and become a wedding band,” said Rachel.

The band also played another successful gig at the Cemetery Hotel on Saturday 1 February.
