Rochdale charity receives thousands of pounds of funding

Sparth Community Centre Association, a registered charity on Norman Road, Rochdale, has received a £43,465 funding boost.

A 22 month project will provide a range of out of school activities for five to 14 year olds.

For the project volunteers will assist in delivering the entertainment, which will include a play scheme, girls club and a youth forum. It is hoped that the project will tackle low educational attainment and improve community cohesion.

Kenny Farrar, Sparth Community Centre Manager, said: “The grant will enable us to continue to offer out of school provision to children and young people within Sparth and the surrounding neighbourhoods.

“It will enable the children and young people to be involved in the planning, delivery and evaluation of activities offered to them.

“Without this grant Sparth Community Centre would not have been able to offer activities to children/young people aged between 5 and 12, other than our younger play scheme funded through RADPAC.”

Using money received by HealthSustain CIC, the Health Lottery grants have been awarded by the People’s Health Trust through Active Communities. This is a funding programme which invests in local people and groups with great ideas in hopes of making their communities even better.

Chris Lunn, Director of HealthSustain CIC, said: “This project is extremely valuable to a wide range of individuals across this region; we look forward to hearing more about how the initiative has allowed people to live longer healthier lives.”

HealthSustain CIC has raised £795,669, through the Health Lottery for health-related good causes in Northern Manchester.

Active Communities is for community groups and not-for-profit organisations with an income of less than £350,000 a year that are seeking investment of between £5,000 and £50,000 a year, for projects lasting up to two years.
