Fire at Stansfield Mill, Littleborough in 2012
Plans have been submitted to prepare the ground for a residential development on the Stansfield Mill site in Littleborough.
The application has been received by Rochdale Council and it is understood that as yet, no plans have been submitted for houses.
The proposal sent to the council is for the ‘remediation and land re-grading works for the proposed re-development of the site.’
From documents regarding the development, Smith Grant LLP have been brought in to provide a remediation strategy for the proposed
development.
C Smith and Sons Ltd have been appointed by Barratt Homes to prepare the site and undertake remediation work to enable the
development to proceed.
Smith Grant have also been brought in to undertake stage one and stage two contamination assessments of the land.
The site was most recently used by Calderbrook Jute for the manufacture of carpet, rugs, knitwear and textiles. A fire in 2012 destroyed most of the works leaving the factory closed and largely demolished.
