A meeting will be held in the school hall on Monday, 3 February for children on the Sacramental Programme. The meeting will run from 3pm to 4pm.

The following Sunday, 9 February, there will be a children’s mass in the church at 9.3am for all children on the Sacramental Programme – all must attend.

Church news

There will be an African choir singing at the 9.30am Mass on Sunday morning 2nd February. The group are based at a catholic church in Oldham but this Sunday have been invited to sing for the Mass at St John’s.

I am sure that this will be a memorable and exciting experience. I hope that many of our parent s and children will come along and realise that a warm welcome awaits at St John, even if you have not attended for some time. Give it a try and we look forward to seeing you there.

Clubs

Afterschool and breakfast clubs

The charge for afterschool club and breakfast club is 25p per session. Please ensure that you pay for your sessions at the school office every week.

Homework club

Children must be collected at 4pm promptly.

Attendance and punctuality

Punctuality

Please ensure your child is in school for 8.50am each day. Lateness is very disruptive for the school and you should make every effort to be on time.

Attendance

If your child is absent from school, you must ring the school office on 01706 647195 before 9am to provide a valid reason.

Medicines can be administered in school by our qualified first aid staff and if your child is otherwise well but needs medication, please send them to school with their medicine and complete a consent form at the school office.

Holiday leave

Please do not ask for leave out of normal term time, this will not be granted and will be marked as unauthorised on your child’s register. Please be aware that penalty charges can and will be issued for continued absenteeism and you may lose your place at the school.

Healthy birthday treats

We are having increasing numbers of birthday cakes and boxes of crisps brought in by parents/carers for their children to share in school with their friends.

St. John’s has completed the enhanced healthy schools award and we should seriously be adhering to the policy. Because of this, I cannot allow cakes, crisps or sweets to be brought in to celebrate birthdays.

If parents would like to celebrate their child’s birthday with the school, here are some suggestions:

· Healthy treats such as fruit, small packets of raisins, etc.;

· Balloons for the younger children;

· donate a new book for the class, the child’s name could be written in the book and present it to the class;

· A pencil or something similar for each child in class.

School meals

We are getting a large number of children changing their meal patterns on a daily/weekly basis. Due to the disruption this causes, meal patterns cannot be changed until the end half term so please decide if your child is to have a packed lunch or school meal and keep to that decision.

Moving house or changing telephone number

We still have a very small number of parents/carers who do not inform the school when they change telephone numbers or move house. It is essential that we have correct contact details for cases of emergency.
