The cost of parking permits is being reduced by 25 per cent by Rochdale Borough Council.

Parking tariffs in council car parks across the borough will also be frozen at their current rates for 12 months.

Councillor Jacqui Beswick, Cabinet Member for Place and Regulation, said: “Reducing the cost of parking permits and freezing parking tariffs for 12-months will help increase footfall to the borough’s town centres and shows that as a council we are listening to residents, visitors and local businesses in the borough.”

From April motorists will be able to purchase permits on a month-by-month basis rather than in three-month blocks done at present, giving holders more flexibility and making the upfront costs more affordable.

The move will see the cost of a class one vehicle five-day parking permit at The Holme/Baillie Street/Central Leisure car parks in Rochdale town centre drop from £531 per year to £396 per year.

The cost for the Whitworth Road/High Street/Back Old Road car parks in Rochdale will reduce from £414 per year to £312 per year. In Middleton the cost will reduce from £329 per year to £252 per year.
